WHAT TO EXPECT IN A "PELVIC FLOOR"
ASSESSMENT
A typical session first involves a detailed history - this includes questions about your symptoms, pain, obstetric history, and bowel/bladder function. You will have an opportunity to add this information into your intake form!
For the objective exam, this normally includes both an internal and external assessment. Your practitioner may do a movement examination of your back and hips, as well as observe your posture and abdominal area. Depending on your needs and level of comfortability with your practitioner, a pelvic floor examination involves external and/or internal vaginal examination. This allows your practitioner to assess tone, pain, flexibility and strength of the pelvic floor muscles.
